Who We Are
Paul Stoddart
Founder & CEO
Paul Stoddart is a highly respected industry veteran with more than 20 years experience.
His career spans the delivery of major programs of work across the energy efficiency and lighting sectors. These programs have helped some of New Zealand’s largest organisations reduce energy use, improve asset performance, specify and manage the upgrade of large scale lighting projects and future-proof their operations.
A seasoned consultant and practitioner, Paul brings specialist technical knowledge together with hands-on delivery experience. He is widely recognised within the lighting industry for his capability in lighting design, specification, program management, and commissioning of complex, high-performance lighting solutions. His portfolio includes some of New Zealand’s largest and most challenging lighting projects.
This includes a 14-year upgrade program for Air New Zealand, covering its nationwide campus and multiple fully operational hangars, projects requiring meticulous planning, tight stakeholder coordination and uncompromising safety and quality standards. Paul also led the modernisation of legacy lighting systems across 120 Goodman Property warehouses and distribution centres, transitioning them from outdated technologies to high-efficiency LED systems complemented by sophisticated lighting control strategies.
These lighting projects consistently delivered significant energy and maintenance savings, while materially improving illumination levels, lighting quality, and the uniformity of light across entire sites—enhancing safety, productivity, and overall environmental performance.
Paul’s expertise in energy initiatives includes power factor correction, solar deployment and most recently the implementation of a large-scale smart meter upgrade program across 100+ Goodman Property sites. This initiative is enabling better visibility of energy consumption, improved billing accuracy, and more intelligent asset and energy management across a diverse national portfolio.

He engages effectively with clients, understands the operational realities of complex assets, and brings a track record of delivering measurable results at scale. His reputation is built on integrity, technical excellence, and a long history of enabling organisations to achieve meaningful, data-driven improvements in energy and operational performance.
Melissa Stoddart
Executive Assistant
Melissa brings over 30 years experience of office management, administrative duties, board secretarial roles, diary, database and project management to her role. Her experience in the areas of design and implementation of sales incentive programs, the tracking of sales trends and the organisation of large scale international conventions make her an invaluable asset to The Energy Practice.

Melissa has been awarded several special citations over her career for outstanding achievement and contribution to companies on a consistent basis. She has a very systematic working style with great attention to detail, resulting in her being able to efficiently and significantly support Paul in his running of the company.
Leon Van Den Bergh
Project Manager

Leon brings over 11 years of experience in the petrochemical industry as a project manager. He honed his skills in overseeing various projects and has mastered the art of utilising technology to enhance his career. His diverse background, from underground tunnelling to electrical inspection, has equipped him with the expertise to excel in project management and has prepared him to impact the industry significantly
Jane-Marie Le Noel-Bell
Finance Manager
Jane-Marie brings over 30 years of experience in the areas of Finance and Human Resources, working in both multinational corporations and New Zealand-owned industries. Jane-Marie has a deep understanding of what makes a business thrive, and strong beliefs that people and communication are at the heart of any successful organisation.
